After working for the same restaurant for five years I was recently let go. It was the franchise owners decision and all of my other bosses objected. I was let go for the uniform policy, but when I asked him to elaborate he told me that is all I needed to know. I regularly replaced my uniform, replacing items at least once a month. This happened just a month after I had read an email from our corporate office about beautifying the restaurant. It stated they wanted only commercial/television worthy employees and then went on to explain that anyone overweight or unclean cut needed to be weeded out. A week later a meeting with all of the managers was held with a lawyer to help them terminate employees while avoiding any lawsuits. Can this really be right? I was basically fired for my weight. Can visual appearance be more important than cleanliness and quality service?
