I been working at a company for about 10 months. I have a BA degree and was getting paid a low amount compare to other people who were working there with no education. I have applied to work for the police department because I wanted a second job to save up money to go to graduate school. The police department is required to check my employment history. They had send a letter to my current employer at the time. When they received the letter they pulled me in the office and asked me what was it about. I told them everything I just stated above. Then two days later I am fired due to absence. When the last time I was absent was a month prior to this. Their was another employee who worked with myself that was absent for weeks at a time and she never show any letters backing up her reasons. May I also mention that besides myself, there was only one other Hispanic working there. Then they paid me for the day that I was fired and now they want their money back.
My supervisor told me in private that I was going to be fired so I called out of work the next day. He then told me over the phone that I was fired. So since I get direct deposit I didn't need to go and pick up my check. I have seen my employees get fired and what they would usually do is have them come in then fired them as soon as they came in. I didn't come into work that and I guess they are mad now. I just want to know if anything could be done about this because I feel I was fired for no reason. I have filed to collect unemployment but I am not sure if I could get it. Is this possible? Can they stop me from getting unemployment? Can I sue them for wrongful termination? Please help me thanks
