Poor Communication and need some advice. |

This is the original problem from an employee... |
I am an employee in a large retail pharmacy. Recently my boss has been becoming increasingly frustrating about the lack of communication he provides. We have taken on some additional responsibilities without him discussing it with our team. We have no set routine on how to complete the tasks. It is now becoming embarrassing if a client calls us about it and we know nothing about what they are referring to. We are all getting so mad at him but he is unapproachable.
Some employees get little bits of information, but others, myself included, get no information regarding new clients. I myself got a call for doing some emergency medicine for a nursing home that we do not deal with. I told the person on the phone that we do not supply medication to that nursing home. They game me the info anyway and we ended the phone call. I went over and asked my boss what this was all about. He said, oh Ya we took them on last week. I felt so stupid and MAD!
Any advice on how to deal with this non-communicator? |

| Hi buddy
What I understand from the details you have written, i would say that you are the one who understands this problem very well. Now this problem being with your boss, you cant be staraight forward pointing out his -ve's. For this you need to be very Diplomatic.
-- This is an approach of pointing out the problem. In This case once escalated you cant control the situation. You are asking your boss to solve the issue if you going to write mail to him saying all this is because of his attitude.
-- Instead try an approach of giving a solution of that problem to your company. Now here my very first sentence comes into picture "U understand this prob very well". Try to figure out a solution - it could be a common share point or blog or a file which contains latest critical information & also is accessible to all required employees.
Present this solution to your boss in such a way that it becomes acceptable. This will enhance your management & leadership skills.
Always remember - Pointing out a problem is good & giving a solution to it is gr8

| Write a letter to him expressing your concerns, using other co-workers' concerns as back up material, and provide your idea of how to work things out. Please be very straight forward and specific, but respectful at the same time. It is not easy to write such a letter and be effective, please seek help to people with really good writing skills, who could help you organize ideas, give suggestions, and proof read the letter. The content of the letter is very important, but if you are not careful in how you present it, this my be a disaster.
Of course if he does not read or response to the letter, you should write to his boss.
Good luck.
