This is the original problem from an employee...
I am not sure what category this falls under, but I am two seconds from getting fired for BLASTING my lazy coworker. The way our workforce is structured, I am supposed to assist this gentleman with existing accounts and take care of same store growth while he goes out and brings in new business. In the year that he has been an employee, he has closed one account on his own, and that commission should have been given to another division of the company.

Most recently, due to his lack of follow up, we have started to lose accounts. One loss was beyond our control, but when upper management called to get details of the account, he had no clue what was going on. Rather, he called me to put together a detailed report of what was going on in the account only to say HE did the work. The same scenario just happened recently. This is how it goes: Upper management will ask him about specific info about an account, he will call me and ask me for the information which I provide (he asks me to email it to him so he can email it to upper management) then he takes the credit.

Last week, I had enough. I bypassed him altogether and sent the information requested directly from my email to upper management with a polite "oops" later.

We also recently lost an account because he did not follow up on the client's request. I made the mistake of assuming that my coworker would take care of the issue as it is not in my job description to do so. I did not find out until 4 months later that my coworker never followed up. His excuse... "the contact person never called me back." Once I learned this, I got on the phone and within 20 minutes had the information the client requested months before. Sadly, it was too little too late.

This has been going on for months. I have informed my direct boss of my concerns, but he thinks I am tattling on my coworker, but if I don't help lazy coworker, he can go to his manager and say that I am being uncooperative.

It has gotten so bad that I can not work with this lazy bum anymore. I am thinking of simply quitting.

I NEED my job, but the stress level is getting to be too much. I sacrifice a lot (including a personal life due to the travel) for this job, so I take it VERY personally that I am working myself to the bone while lazy coworker gets the credit for work I am doing.

My boss doesn't want to hear my complaints (he even said I was a problem child), and I can't say NO because that will also put me in a bad light. What else can I do?
