I work for a small company (27 employees). My department has three people including me. My supervisor and the other employee in the department are best friends. I am not included in things they do, which is okay, because they don't like the church lady hanging around them.
My problem is I am a migraineur. My two biggest triggers are changes in weather and fragrance. The other girl in the department wears perfume quite often, even spraying it in the office if she is going out after work.
I have talked to my supervisor as my supervisor. I have talked to my supervisor (and put it in letter form for the file) as the Human Resources Director. The only action I got was an air purifier, which helps a little but not much.
This week I talked to the owner of the company to ask for his help in dealing with the situation. He said he wasn't familiar with fragrance being a problem and he thinks that it isn't right for the company to tell its employees how to groom themselves. He left the conversation with the thought that he would think about it and see if there is anything that he feels he can do.
I personally don't think its fair for me to have to use my PTO when I have to leave work because of a migraine triggered by this. Nor is the expense of the meds fair to me, considering this should be an avoidable trigger.
As I have just talked to them about it this week, I don't want to have them contacted through this site as it wouldn't really be anonymous under the circumstances.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can deal with this issue?
Thanks for your time.
