Is it unethical for a majority employee group to report directly to the Board of Directors that the leadership of their superior is questioned, providing written examples of concerns, all in the face of a leader that is highly defensive, threatened and inclined to take retaliatory action of dismissal when questioned about his/her's leadership style inadequacies.

No, I don't think so. People can report to whoever they want to when they have questions. It may backfire on them though, but hey... you take your chances in life.
